Anyone who understands the industry knows that Rtint one of the couple of companies in the aftermarket accessory sector that routinely
designs custom made kits. Rtint is perhaps best known for their precut
window tint but they also do a large number of custom
headlight and tail light tint kits.
Custom Headlight Tint for the 1998 -2000 Lincoln Navigator
However some of us would rather not believe it, 1998 was awhile ago...some may even say it's in the ancient past. As a result it's not often that Rtint will accept custom work for models years older than a decade ago. Still, there are a few vehicles that Rtint does think are worth the time, expense and energy to make a custom design for and the Navigator was one of them precisely because it was so iconic in its day.
As you can see from the headlights shown above, the contours of the navigator's headlight typically are not easy to make a film
kit for. Each end of the light has a "bubble" which protrudes and makes using a flat, unslit sheet of film impossible. If you take a look at the diagram of the actual kit that I included above (yeah it's somewhat stylized but it does the trick) you will see we pre-slit the kit to allow for a smooth fit. But, you may ask, how does this work when the kit is applied? Won't there be areas of the headlamp showing?
Actually, the reverse is the case. The pre-cut kit is design to heat stretch and the areas that are pre-slit will slide over one another. You can then either leave them be or, for a truly smooth look, you can score and trim away the excess. The next time we do such a design we will go ahead and photograph the kit when it has been completed to show how it is done.
